Fuck Keith Richards

I can't wait for this. I only hope it's better that his, slightly disappointing, autobiography. This and the film about Anvil, plus AC/DC and Metallica selling out tours could make 2009 a great year for metal.

They're making a movie about Anvil!?! Result!

The metal doc I like is Penelope Spheeris' Decline of Western Civilisation - The Metal Years from 1987 or so. To be honest, you or I could have taken a camera crew into LA in 1987 and pointed it at Metal bnads and came away with a good film, but it does capture the time pretty well.

They've made the Anvil film, read the link in that post.

I've seen Decline... only the once, years ago. It was very good, but all I remember are WASP's Chris Holmes in a swimming pool treating his mother badly; Gene Simmons or Paul Stanley (can't remember which) surrounded by Playmates; Lemmy, as usual, talking sense, at night beside a highway wearing flares and white boots.

I've only seen the Spheeris thing once myself, for some reason it's not out on DVD far as I know. It is very warts and all, but it was a pretty warts and all time.

I also like the BBC Arena documentary: Napalm Death, Bruce Dickinson fencing, Axl Rose being bitchy about Iron Maiden and the tragicomedy of Ozzy trying to pour himself an orange juice.

Axl Rose on Iron Maiden: "I'm sure they're a good bunch of guys, but they don't have anything in common with us". Good.
Bruce Dickinson's heavy metal clothes collection got featured too, including Gene Simmons's boots and Blackie Lawless's exploding codpiece.

I've got the Arena documentary on a VHS somewhere. In fact, there'a a You Tube clip of it on this very blog...
It also features a surprisingly soft-spoken Tom Araya talking about Reign in Blood, which is renders hilarious as he can't remember the word for 'stalactites'. "I don't know what they're called".

I think I've seen the doco one too many times.
